3 benefits of drinking tea in winter (and all year round)

Winter season has begun in Pakistan and most other parts of the world. Many people actually look forward to this season because it is a time when you snuggle up in your warm blanket, sip hot soup and watch T.V. Winter also is a month where tea consumption increases, especially is a tea-loving nation like Pakistan. Various kinds of teas are drunk throughout the day. Some drink it to get the warmth, others to refresh while the rest don’t even need a reason to drink tea. Adequate consumption of tea has a lot of benefits for human health. Apart from relaxing and refreshing you, it does wonders for your body.

Tea may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke

Unwanted blood clots formed from cholesterol and blood platelets cause heart attack and stroke. Drinking tea may help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free, the same way a drain keeps your bathroom pipes clear. A 5.6-year study from the Netherlands found a 70 percent lower risk of a fatal heart attack in people who drank at least two to three cups of black tea daily compared to non-tea drinkers.

Protects you against cancer

A special kind of compounds found in the tea call polyphenols is known for their cancer-fighting properties. Although the research on this one is still going not conclusive, these compounds have shown remarkable performance against fighting cancer cells.

Speeds up your metabolism

For those who complain of slow metabolism, drinking a few of tea throughout the day can help address all their metabolism issues. Green tea has been shown to actually increase metabolic rate so that you can burn 70 to 80 additional calories by drinking just five cups of green tea per day. Over a year’s time, you could lose eight pounds just by drinking green tea. Of course, taking a 15-minute walk every day will also burn calories.
