5 Ways You’re Harming Your Skin

skin care

No one likes a know-it-all, but if you want your skin to be radiant and smooth as you keep aging, you will have to pay attention to what I’m about to tell you. We read about the different products and techniques popping up every day we can use to keep our skin clean and healthy, but here are 5 things we should definitely not be doing.

smokingSmoking

This vicious vice is not only injurious to your inner health, but it also has effects on the health of your skin. Smoking causes your skin to develop more and deeper wrinkles while the nicotine in cigarettes reduces blood flow, causing the skin to discolor which makes your skin tone blotchy.

Not Washing Your Makeup Brushes

We know it may seem like there isn’t any harm in using a makeup brush over and over again, but if you don’t, you could end up with muddied colors, clogged pores and the possibility of bacterial infections. Regardless whether you use the brushes every day or not, make sure that once every two weeks, you wash them out with a mild shampoo and let them dry overnight.

Not Washing Off Your Makeup

All day, every day, oil continues to build upon your skin. If you don’t wash your makeup off and let your skin marinate in it all night, you can end up with clogged pores and zits, especially if your best friend is acne. Our body temperature slightly rises while we sleep, which enhances the absorption of whatever there is on our skin. Therefore, it’s better to have a moisturizer that will nourish your skin rather than day-old makeup and oil.

Don’t Pop That Pimple!

A whitehead appears. Grows bigger the next day and even bigger the next. Just a little squeeze and it will pop and all problems will end. However, if you fail to control the urge your problems will only just intensify. Squeezing a pimple only pushes the bacteria deeper into our pores, causing inflammation and infection. Not only that, but it also causes scarring and the zit stays on your skin longer than it would have originally.

Among the countless benefits of exercise is increasing blood flow to the skin, which causes a healthy-looking flush. When we’re stressed, cortisol levels rise and that leads to acne and such skin issues. However, exercising regularly can lessen cortisol levels, making the skin smooth and clear.
