It’s a known fact that smoking is life-threatening, yet, over 1 billion people in this world are considered smokers. When it comes to quitting smoking, it really isn’t that easy. But you know, when there is a will, there is a way!

So, if you are someone who wants to quit this bad habit, while still going strong with a dozen or more cigarettes a day, this article is for you! Learn about the benefits of quitting smoking and motivate yourself to live a healthier life.

Initial smoke-free weeks with a heavy heart

The first few weeks of quitting are highly crucial. Nicotine cravings are ridiculously bad, anxiety kicks in, and you feel extremely tired. But, you got to be tough and remember why you decided to quit. Write down all the benefits that you will read below and follow some practical strategies like finding healthier alternatives like joining the gym, chewing gum while your friends are smoking and distracting yourself with books (or video games).

Stop memorizing song lyrics and start with these amazing benefits.

The benefits of quitting smoking arrive almost instantly! Just within the first twelve hours, the body starts cleansing itself of the excess carbon monoxide, making the oxygen levels come back to normal. As soon as the day ends, the risk of heart diseases, stroke, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels start to decrease. And by the end of the second day of quitting, your body is finally free of all the nicotine. If all this is happening just within the first two days, imagine what wonders your body will go through once you have gotten rid of the smoking for good!

The Senses:

If you’re a smoker, it’s pretty evident that you have already burnt your taste buds and nostrils with all that smoke! And your chances of acquiring hearing and vision disorders are 10 times more than a non-smoker. So, when you quit smoking, your vision and hearing considerably improve, night blindness becomes a long lost enemy and you finally experience the magic of smelling and tasting all things pleasant.

The systems:

Circulation and respiration are the two major systems greatly affected by smoking. The toxic smoke damages the lungs to such an extent that it becomes prone to cancer. It results in clots forming in the blood and thickens it up making your heart all set for an attack! But, sadly, you cannot reverse the damage that’s already been done. Therefore, better be safe than sorry and decide to quit smoking! Once you do that, all the gunk and mucus will be cleansed and your lungs and heart will take a partly-fresh start.

When it comes to other systems, there are also significant changes happening within them.   You are less likely to get sick because your immune system gets better, fractures will only occur if you are next level clumsy, your muscles will become healthier, your sexual life will be great (as smoking causes performance anxiety) and most importantly, the risk of different types of cancers caused by smoking lowers down considerably.

There are many difficult decisions one has to make and bidding farewell to smoke is the most difficult one for a smoker. But, if you keep reminding yourself that this life is a gift, love yourself a little more and decide to not commit cigarette suicide, it’ll be absolutely worth it!
