Miscarriage and it’s misconceptions – let’s clear the air

Miscarriage is an experience that many women go through. This loss, however, gets shrouded in utmost secrecy.

Moreover, many women feel like it was their fault or they were responsible for losing the baby. But this is far away from the truth. There are many factors as to why a woman might miscarry, but there is actually nothing she could have physically done that would have led to her miscarriage.

Are you someone who had a miscarriage? Or do you know someone who had one? Well, read today’s blog where we clear the air and talk about the myths about miscarriages.

“It was the mommy’s fault”

Obviously, it is their fault. She kept the baby to eventually let go. Biologically, when the egg and sperm meet, then they each bring 23 DNA-carrying chromosomes to create the genome (genetic material of an organism) of the new embryo. But, sometimes, this process doesn’t go right. And many miscarriages are caused by these genetic errors.

“But miscarriages at super rare”

Obviously, they are ‘so rare’ that a lot of women go through them. There was a survey done, where a 1000 people thought that the percentage of miscarriages were 5% or less. However, in reality, about 20% of known pregnancies result in miscarriages. And, many women don’t even know they are pregnant before they miscarry.

Miscarriages happen all the time, it is just that people aren’t educated about them. This topic is not supposed to be toned down but actually voices need to be heard in support of moms who have gone through this.

“You cannot get pregnant after a miscarriage”

You cannot get pregnant after a miscarriage if you want to give your body sometime, and you want it to heal. Otherwise, 90% women who miscarry will get pregnant and have healthy babies. It might take a few weeks before your body recovers but most women get their period in 4-6 weeks.

In super rare cases, some women might have scarring inside their uterus. Even this can be treated. So, if you are worrying that you will not fall pregnant after a miscarriage, then you are wrong.

Road to success minus the ‘miscarriage myths’

So, if someone has gone through a miscarriage then you need to be understanding. Be more vocal about miscarriages and educate people regarding them. To-be mothers, who have lost their baby, are already under a lot of pressure and going through a lot therefore, you need to use your voice and speak out for them. Empathy and kindness are the two things; you need to shower victims of miscarriages with.
