Moisturizing hands

Moisturizing, as straightforward as it may seem, is a tricky business. Do you find yourself applying lotions and creams multiples times a day only to have the same dry, cracked skin? With December’s dry winds fast approaching, you may have noticed flecks of white around your elbows, ankles, knees and wrists appearing more often. If you have dry skin in general, you may be experiencing flaky skin, redness, and increased tightness. Keeping your skin moisturized in an effective way can not only ease these symptoms but with the right methods and products it is also possible to have a fresh glow.

Therefore, this week at Dawaai.pk we are answering questions you may have about moisturizing.

When are the best times to moisturize?

When you use your face wash or body wash, the skin is stripped of natural oils that keep it supple and hydrated. Therefore, some of the best times to use a moisturizer are immediately after washing your face, taking a shower and washing your hands. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, moisturizing is most effective when skin is still damp. So, it is a good idea to keep your hand, face and body creams in the bathroom for immediate use after wash.

In this weather, it would be helpful to switch to a hydrating face wash that won’t leave your skin feeling dry. Try the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser for normal to dry skin.

Another great time to moisturize is before you go to sleep. Applying a lotion, cream or oil to your hands and feet before bed will allow for the product to stay on for a long time and lock the moisture in. Try applying coconut oil for silky smooth heels and AVON Care Argan Oil Hand Cream for soft and supple hands.

What type of moisturizer is best for my skin?

Oily or acne-prone skin: If you have this type of skin, you may be wary of moisturizing. However, it is important to remember that the right kind of moisturizer would not lead to breakouts. It is best for you to opt for non-greasy moisturizers for your face such as Skin Aqua Moisturizing Serum with SPF 30.

Normal or dry skin: In order to have a healthy and nourished look, you need a moisturizer that will keep your skin hydrated for a long time without smearing your face with too much product. Try the Atopalm Moisturizing Face Cream with firming effects for a refreshing look.

If you have extremely dry and irritated skin, it is best to consult a dermatologist for the right treatment.

Can I prevent dry skin with a better diet?

Yes, most definitely. The first step towards providing nourishment for your skin involves drinking enough water and consuming foods that provide the necessary vitamins for your skin to retain its natural elasticity. There are some easy steps you can take. For example, swap your soft drinks for some cucumber and mint water. Eat almonds, cashews and walnuts for your daily vitamins. Snack on sunflower seeds instead of salty potato chips. Have a side salad of tomato, bell pepper and cucumber with your meals for vitamin C. Small measures like that can greatly enhance your skin’s health.
