6 Tips to Prepare for Karachi’s Winters

Karachi’s winter can be…well tricky to say the least. It’s midway through December and there’s no sign of it. Yes, the air conditioners have been turned off, the blankets taken out of the storages and coffee has replaced chai for many. But when will the spell of real cold come? When will it be time to take out the hoodies that make you toasty?

Winters are not everybody’s cup of tea. While coffee, bonfires and pretty shawls are a treat; it’s during winters that skin becomes dry, noses become runny and waking up in the morning becomes an absolute nightmare. Here are some tips to help you be more prepared this time, whenever winter decides to visit our beloved Karachi.

Visit your Doctor for a Flu Shot

Seasonal Influenza takes thousands of lives each year around the globe, so it’s always better to be safe. Give your body the armor it needs to avoid the flu.

Playing Outside in Winters

Make sure your young ones are dressed in proper clothing when they play outside which means dressing them in turtlenecks, warm socks, one or two shirts and if it gets really cold then boots. Children may not know how cold their body is getting.

Take Care of your Pets

Your pets have feelings too! Increase their portion sizes as they’ll be burning more calories trying to stay warm. Add more layers of bedding or sheets so they don’t have to sleep on the cold floor.

What about My Skin?

As the season’s change, so does your skin. The air becomes dry and cold; both not good for your skin. You will have to change your routine like the one you used for summer won’t work anymore. You will need to moisturize your skin more often than you did. Another thing to keep in mind is the cleanser you use i.e. because they’re meant to exfoliate; they remove the oil from your skin making it drier. Lastly, for the health of your skin overall, shorten your showers; hot water saps the skin of its natural oils.

Get a Humidifier

If you have dry skin and are prone to nosebleeds in the winter; a humidifier is definitely something you should get. It moisturizes the dry winter air; even a small one can help your skin and nose retain essential moisture.

Perhaps Something that Smells Good?

When Karachi does get its fair share of winter, we shut the windows and stay packed when at home. A scented candle or a plugin will come in handy when the room becomes stuffy or smelly.
