Description

This medicine is used for treating uncomplicated vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D deficiency due to intestinal malabsorption or chronic liver disease. It is also used to treat hypocalcemia (low blood calcium level) due to hypoparathyroidism low parathyroid hormone level) or in patients with renal osteodystrophy (bone disease due to kidney disease).

It may also be given as a supplement to individuals with low Vitamin D levels (less than 25 ng/mL).  It can also be given to individuals with deficiency of calcium and phosphorous and it's necessary for kidney functioning.

Directions for use

• This product should be taken orally as indicated by your doctor.
• This product is most effectively absorbed after a meal. However, it can be consumed with or without food.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Precautions

• If you are hypersensitive to Cholecalciferol or other products of vitamin D (such as calcitriol), or if you have other allergies, consult your doctor before taking Cholecalciferol.
• Inform your doctor if you have a medical history of increased vitamin D/calcium levels (hypervitaminosis D/hypercalcemia), difficulty in the ability to absorb nutrients from food (malabsorption syndrome), kidney problems, or liver problems before taking this product.
• Inform your doctor or dentist regarding all the medicines you consume before surgery (including prescription and nonprescription drugs, as well as herbal products).
• This product should be used cautiously in people having arrhythmia (a heart condition which tends to cause irregular heartbeats) as it may worsen their condition.

When not to use

This medicine is not recommended for patients with the following:

• If you have a high level of calcium in your body, this product may cause complications. This medicine may cause the calcium levels in your blood to rise even higher, aggravating your condition.
• If you are hypersensitive to this product, please avoid using it. 
• If you have kidney stones, you should avoid using this product. This product may increase your chances of developing stones, worsening your condition.

Side effects

This product may cause the following:

• Increased calcium levels in the blood.
• Increased levels of calcium in urine.
• Itching, hives, or rash on the skin.
• Confusion
• Constipation

Pregnancy

Pregnant females should consult their doctors regarding the benefits and risks of Vitamin D-3.

Lactation

Lactating women should consult their doctors before using it.
