This medicine is used as a source of carbohydrate and as diluent (a substance used to dilute something) for intravenous infusion.
Patients administered with this medicine may rarely experience a severe allergic reaction characterized by rash (change in color and texture of skin), itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness (feeling like sleeping), and trouble breathing.
The effect of this medicine is undetermined in a pregnant female, therefore, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Dextrose tolerance should be assessed in patients of renal (kidney) failure, severe sepsis (body’s life-threatening response to an infection), and in early post traumatic state before administering this medicine. Dextrose infusions should not be mixed with whole blood due to the risk of hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) and clumping (form a clump).
This medicine is contraindicated in patients suffering from glucose-galactose malabsorption (unable to absorb nutrients from diet)
