Pk-merz tablet contains amantadine in it which belongs to the class of dopamine agonists i.e they work by increasing dopamine hormone level in parts of the body. Amantadine also has antiviral activity as it acts against influenza A virus (cause of influenza infection) and stops the spread of virus in the body. It is indicated in Parkinson's disease (brain disorder causing problem in movement and coordination), extrapyramidal reaction (having continuous muscle spasm and contractions), influenza A infection (uncomplicated respiratory tract infection) & in prophylaxis (prevention) of influenza A infection.

Directions for use

• For oral administration i.e. taken via the mouth
• For dose instructions, follow the prescribed course of therapy given by the doctor or pharmacist
• Take this medicine with a plenty of water
• Can be taken with or without meal
• In case a dose is missed, then take it as soon as you remember on the same day. However, if the next day has arrived, then take only that day’s dose and do not double it.
• The medicine course should be completed as recommended by the doctor/pharmacist even if you see symptoms subsiding.
• It is prescription medication, so should be used on an as-needed basis only.

Storage

Store the medicine at room temperature. Keep it away from the source of heat or direct sunlight.

• Not recommended for use if you are allergic to amantadine or any other ingredient present in PK-Merz tablet
• This medicine should not be abruptly stopped without informing your doctor.
• Caution is advised when using in patients with compulsive behavior and liver disorder.

• Not recommended for use in patients with untreated narrow angle glaucoma (eye disorder)
• Not recommended for use in patients with history of psychotic disorders

Side effects

Most side effects occur for a short period & are mild. Common side effects like headache, irritability, nausea, trouble sleeping & loss of appetite can occur. If the condition persists or worsens, consult a doctor/pharmacist immediately.
