Description

This medication is used as an adjunct with diet changes and exercise in treating primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol level in the blood) or mixed dyslipidemia (elevations in Low Density Lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride levels, often accompanied by low levels of HDL cholesterol).

It is also used in treating homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (disorder characterized by abnormal levels of LDL cholesterol).

Directions for use

This medicine is mostly taken orally once or twice a day with a glass of water, with or without food. The dosage is dependent on the age, condition, and its severity. Please consult your doctor before use.

Precautions

• Please use cautiously if you have a history of alcohol abuse.
• Please use cautiously if you have hepatic (liver) impairment or disease.
• Please use cautiously if you have muscle weakness or disorders.
• Please use cautiously if you have hypothyroidism (decreased activity of thyroid gland).
• Please use cautiously if you have renal (kidney) impairment or diabetes
• The elderly should use this medicine cautiously.

When not to use

• Please avoid use if you have severe renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment.
• Please avoid use if you have myopathy (muscular disorder).
• The patients with risk of muscular disorders and hypothyroidism (decreased thyroid activity) should avoid the use of this medicine.
• The patients with a history of alcohol abuse should avoid use of this medicine.

Side effects

The patients administered with this medicine may experience the following:

• abdominal discomfort
• altered glucose levels
• dizziness
• lethargy
• myopathy (muscle disease/abnormality).

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the baby.

Lactation

This medicine is not recommended for lactating females as it may harm the baby.
