Description

It is indicated in nasal congestion, allergic rhinitis (also called hay fever), common cold, sinusitis (inflammation of sinuses, and in allergies.

Xylosine nasal spray contains xylometazoline in 0.1% strength which is an alpha1 & alpha2 adrenergic receptor agonist (sympathomimetic effect; mimic effects of agonists of sympathetic nervous system). It belongs to the category of decongestant nasal preparations. It works by shrinking or narrowing blood vessels present in nose as dilated blood vessels cause stuffy nose. Hence narrowing of small vessels relives blocked up feeling & helps in reducing swelling and congestion.

Directions for use

• For nasal use only (by nose)
• You use it by inserting tip of bottle in one nostril and closing other nostril with fingers. Then breathe quickly (or sniff hard) and gently spray xylometazoline in your nose. Repeat the same for another nostril as well
• The strength nasal spray is for use in adults and children over 12 years
• Each day you may spray 1 to 3 times into each nostril (in every 8 to 10 hours)
• Do not exceed its used for more than 7 days
• The spray is not suitable for children below the age of 12
• It should be stored at room temperature and in a cool, dry place
• Protect from moisture and heat
• Avoid contact of spray with eyes or spraying into nasal septum (middle of the inside of nose)
• Wipe after each use with clean tissue or hot water

Storage

Store at room temperature away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Precautions

• It is for temporary relief only and shouldn’t be used for longer periods as chances of side effects increase like blurred vision, fast/pounding of heartbeats, headache/dizziness/nervousness, feeling of shortness of breath or wheezing
• Its more than few days use can also cause rebound congestion which include long-term swelling inside nose, redness & increased runny nose
• Avoid using it if you are allergic to xylometazoline or any ingredients present in nasal spray
• Inform your doctor of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension (high BP), liver or kidney disease, glaucoma (eye disorder), thyroid disorder, enlarged prostate or urination problems; before using xynosine nasal spray.
• Xynosine nasal spray is not intended for use in children below 6 years of age.
• Do not use more than the recommended dose in a day i.e. not more than 3 times in a day

When not to use

• Inform doctor of any allergies with other sympathomimetics as well before using this spray.
• Inform doctor/dentist of xynosine nasal spray use before undergoing surgery.
• Caution is advised while using in children.
