Winter has come to stay in majority parts of Pakistan and while many of us are thankful for the scorching sun to finally ease up, winter brings its own set of worries – especially when it comes to our hair. The extremely dry air combined with constant styling and problems like itchiness and dryness can cause breakage, hair fall, and poor texture. Here are some ways to keep your locks looking lustrous!
Olive Oil and Lemon to Defeat the Dandruff
Drier and itchier than ever before, your hair suffers in the winter because of the lack of moisture in the air. This can lead to itching, irritation and the worst of all, dandruff. Worry not! You can wash your worries away with the right care. All you need is a couple of tablespoon of olive or coconut oil and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Heat it for a few seconds, massage it into your hair and leave it in for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it out with shampoo and feel the magic!
Brush Out the Frizz
One of the worst things about winter hair is static. The sweaters, shawls, hoodies, and scarves all seem to enjoy making your hair a static mess to deal with. What can you do? Use a vented brush with a combination of plastic and boar bristles while combing your hair. Additionally, apply a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair smooth or a couple of drops of coconut oil to control the frizz.
Oil Away the Dry and Damaged
Yes, your mom and grandmother are correct when they constantly tell you to oil your hair. Gently heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and massage it on to your scalp to ensure that it penetrates deep into your roots. Not only does this keep your scalp moisturized to help against the dryness, it improves blood circulation and ensures that your hair follicles get enough nourishment.
Replenish the Roots with a Conditioning Treatment
During dry December and January, it’s a good idea to give your hair a deep conditioning treatment once a week. Not only is this good for texture and shine, it replenishes the moisture which gets depleted due to heat from styling and the dry air outside.
Dry Your Hair; Don’t Damage Them!
Drying out your hair in winters can be a hassle, especially when you have long locks. There is no worse mistake than pulling up damp hair – it attracts many problems like breakage, split ends and dandruff. The other mistake to avoid is rubbing hair dry with a towel because the friction and harsh contact can damage your roots and cause breakage. Gently squeeze out the excess moisture from your hair using a towel and use your drier on the cool setting for minimal hassle and damage.
