What to Eat When You Get Dentures

Once you wear dentures, the biggest challenge is to find food items that are safe to eat. Usually, people get worried about the space surrounding the dentures as the food tends to get stuck there. Also, food items that are hard to chew may cause discomfort to denture wearers. Therefore, it is important that you should consider what to eat and what not to eat when you get dentures.

What to eat just after getting dentures?

Eating food can be big trouble immediately after getting dentures as it takes time for your gums to adjust to chewing and biting. Therefore, in such a situation, it is advised that you should opt for food items that are soft and easy to chew such as:

  • Cereals
  • Soups
  • Lentils
  • Yogurt
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Gelatin dessert
  • Fresh Juices

What to eat after a day or two of getting dentures?

Once your dentures are well-settled in your mouth and become used to of chewing and biting, you can slowly progress and move towards some solid food items. However, you must break your solid food items into small pieces to avoid excessive chewing.

  • Boiled rice
  • Pasta
  • Bread
  • Baked Beans

Food items you should avoid with dentures

After a few days of getting dentures, you will be able to eat all the food items with ease and comfort. While eating, you should make sure that you use both sides of the mouth and chew as evenly as possible. However, there are a few items that you should avoid if you have dentures.

  • Sticky food items: Candies, sweets, peanut butter
  • Hard food items: Popcorn kernels, sesame seeds, and shelled nuts
  • Nutty chocolates
  • Raw vegetables
  • Nuts with tough shells
