This medication is used in the diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction (patient is not able to develop or maintain an erection, causing impotency).

Contradications

This medication is contraindicated in sickle cell anemia (cresent shaped red blood cells, deficiency of healthy red blood cells), multiple myeloma (cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell) and leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells)

Side effects

Patients administered with this medication may experience burning feeling or tension in the penis, fibrosis (scarring), erythema (redness and inflammation of the skin), haemosiderin (a yellowish-brown, iron-containing, granular pigment in cells) deposits in the penis, priapism (prolonged erection of the penis), changes in the blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beat), dizziness, headache, vagal shock (faint) and collapse

Expert Advice

Avoid alcohol during therapy. 

Avoid using more than 3 times a week. A gap of 24 hour should be there between doses. 

Use condom to prevent sexually transmitted dseases. 

Contact your doctor if you experience penile problems such as pain, rash, redness, swelling, numbness, irregular heatbeat, chest pain, flu like symptoms, wheezing and diffculty in breathing.
