This medication is indicated in patients with depression. Enuresis (inability to control urination) in children.
Amitriptyline is contraindicated in following conditions:
- Overactive thyroid gland
- Suicidal thoughts
- Wide-angle glaucoma
- Closed angle glaucoma
- Heart attack within the last 30 days
- Abnormal heart rhythm
Anticholinergic effects (eg dry mouth, blurred vision), tinnitus (ringing in ears), confusion, aggression, decreased libido, somnolence (sleepiness), attention disturbance, palpitations, headaches, seizures, heart impairment, GI upset, allergic skin reactions, taste disturbance, blood dyscrasias, sweating, weight changes, testicular swelling, hepatic (liver impairment) and jaundice.
