chlorhexidine

This medication is indicated in patients with periodontal infection (teeth infection), gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), oral candidiasis (oral fungal infection) and also in patients with tooth implantation. 

This medicine is also used in the treatment of superficial wounds (injuries) of any kind, cuts, scratches, burns, sores (open wounds), dermatitis (itchy, dry, swollen skin), leg ulcers, and decubitis (lying down) ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of skin infections, cracked nipples in nursing mothers, and in minor surgeries of injuries and surgical wounds.

Contradications

This medication is contraindicated in cases of inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth.

Side effects

The patients using this medication might see reversible staining on teeth after long-term use.

Expert Advice

This medication is to be used by adults and children twice a day. This medication must not be swallowed. After application rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.

Avoid contact with eyes.

Do not apply this medicine to deep cuts, scrapes (a type of open wound), or open skin wounds (injuries).

How long does it take chlorhexidine to work?
