This medication is used for the management of hypertension (increased blood pressure), angina pectoris (chest pain), cardiac dysrhythmias (irregular heart rate), myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Contradications

Second or third degree heart block, cardiogenic shock (heart stops pumping adequate amount of blood).

Side effects

Cold extremeties, fatigueness, bradycardia (decreased heart rate), sleep disturbance rarely, rashes, dry eyes, nausea, dizziness, rarely thrombocytopenia (abnormally low levels of platelets) and leucopenia (decreased number of white blood cells)

PREGNANCY

This medication can be used during pregnancy only when no safer alternative exists. Consult your doctor before taking this medication during pregnancy.

PRECAUTIONS

Avoid this medication in overt heart failure, Anaesthesia, Asthma, Withdrawal of beta blocking drugs should be gradual in patients with ischaemic heart disease (recurring chest pain), Kidney impairment, Diabetes. If symptoms attribute to slow heart rate, reduce dose. Measure potassium levels.
