cloxacillin

This medication is used to treat respiratory tract infections which includes bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi), pneumonia, emphysema (shortness of breath), lung abscess (death of the lung tissue) and infections with cystic fibrosis. Ear, nose and throat infections. Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils), sinusitis (inflammation of the sinus), pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx), otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear) and quinsy (an abscess in the tissue). Pelvic infections. Urinary tract infections; cystitis (urinary tract infection that occurs mostly in bladder) and pyelonephritis (inflammation of the kidney). Skin and soft tissue infections 

Contradications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity (allergy) to penicillin, cephalosporin or other beta lactam

Side effects

The patients taking this medication may experience hypersensitivity (allergy), GI (stomach and intestine) upset, rash, transient rise in liver enzyme, pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the large intestine due to overgrowth of C difficle bacteria)

  • Take the medicine 1 hour before or 2 hours after the meal.
  • Take with a full glass of water, do not take with fruit juice or soda.
  • Use a calibrated measuring device to ensure accurate doses.
  • Contact prescriber if allergic reactions occur.
