dorzolamide

This medicine is used for the treatment of ocular (eye) hypertension and open angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) either as an adjunct to beta blockers or used alone in patients unresponsive to beta-blockers, or if beta blockers are contraindicated.

Contradications

This medication should not be used in patients with severe renal (kidney) impairment or hyperchloremic (increased chloride levels in blood) acidosis (pH level of body drops below 7.35).

Side effects

Patients using this medication may experience ocular (eye) burning, stinging, itching, blurred vision, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva), bitter taste, nausea, fatigue and tearing are some of the side effects.

Monotherapy is 1 drop 3 times daily.

How to store this medication?

Do I need to cover my eyes following cataract surgery?

You may be asked to wear sun glasses or avoid sun exposure for some time following cataract surgery. For further guidance, consult your healthcare provider.

Will this medicine affect my vision?

You may be required to close your eyes for 10-15 after using this medicine so tasks like driving should be avoided immediately after use. Rarely does this medicine cause vision changes.

When do I contact my prescriber?

Contact your prescriber if there is pain in the eye, eye infection redness, burning, changes in vision, no improvement or worsening conditions

How do I use this medication?

Tilt your head back, look upward, add drops to your eye. Close your eye and roll eyeball in all directions. Do not blink for 30 seconds.

Are there any interaction of this with other medications?

Yes, this medication interacts with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Leave an interval of 10 mins if using other ophthalmic preps.
