This medicine is used in the maintenance treatment of chronic (long term) obstructive pulmonary disease (inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs).

Contradications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients of thyrotoxicosis (excess thyroid hormone action), diabetes (raised blood sugar level), have a low amount of potassium in blood, high blood pressure, diminished flow through the arteries of heart, abnormal heart rhythm, seizures (abnormal brain activity causing periods of unconsciousness), and deteriorating asthma (lung disease characterized by breathlessness, wheezing, and cough).

Side effects

Patients administered with this medication may experience inflammation, headache, dizziness (feeling like sleeping), diabetes (raised blood sugar level), chest pain, ischemic (reduced flow of oxygen) heart disease, muscle spasm (uncontrolled contraction), and peripheral edema (swelling of legs and hands). Some patients may also have a hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction to this medication.
