It is used in the treatment of latent and manifest iron deficiency and also used in the prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency during and after pregnancy (lactation). Iron deficienct anemia includes
- Macrocytic Anemia
- Anemia associated with infections
- Anemia due to hemorrhage
- Anemia associated with malignant disease
Contradications
- Iron overload.
- Anemia not caused by iron deficiency.
- Megaloblastic anemia due to VB12 deficiency.
Side effects
Some of the following are the side effects are as follows:
- Gastrointestinal irritation
- Nausea
- Constipation/Diarrhea
- Pressure in the epigastric region
