This medication is indicated in patients with gastro-entero-pancreatic endocrine (GEP) (stomach, intestine and pancreatic) tumors, carcinoid tumors (slow growing cancer growing throughout the body), patients who go through pancreatic surgery. It is a short term treatment for acromegaly and long term treatment in patients in whom dopamine agonist and radiotherapy are ineffective.
Contradications
This medication is not recommended to be used by pregnant or lactating mothers.
Side effects
Patients administered with this medication may experience injection site reaction, gastrointestinal (stomach and intestine) problems, gallstones (stones in gall bladder), biliary colic (pain in abdomen), repeated hyperglycemia (rise in blood sugar), hypoglycemia (decrease in blood sugar), hair loss, hepatic (liver) dysfunction and acute pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas)
