This medication is used as a booster dose for children previously immunised with 3 doses of DTPa(diphtheria , tetanus ,pertussis ) or DTPw(diphtheria , tetanus ,pertussis ) vaccine.
Contradications
Patients with possible hypersensitivity( allergies) to vaccines and DPT vaccines should not use this vaccine. Patients with encephalopathy(damage or disease that affects the brain) of unknown reason within 7 days of the previous vaccine with pertussis should also not use this vaccine. Patients with transient thrombocytopenia(temporary low levels of platelets in blood ) or neurological (nervous system)complications following an earlier immunisation against diphtheria and for tetanus .
Side effects
Local pain, redness , swelling , malaise (discomfort) , fatigue , headache , diarrhea , irritability , loss of appetite , vomiting .

PRECAUTIONS
Patients with acute severe febrile illness as well as patients with a history of severe reactions within 2-3 days of the vaccine such as convulsions(rapid uncontrolled contraction and relaxation of muscles) with or without fever , inconsolable crying lasting more than 3 hours or a collapse or shock like state within 48 hours of the vaccine should be cautioned against this vaccine. Pregnant and lactating females should also be careful. Consult your healthcare provider for further details.
