potassium-citrate
This medicine is used to treat potassium depletion especially during administration of diuretics (agents promoting urination).
Contradications
The patients with severe renal (kidney) impairment, serum plasma concentration above 5 millimol/ liter, dehydration, conditions associated with hyperkalemia (high potassium levels), gastric obstruction or ulceration (inflammation), significant tissue damage, and metabolic acidosis (metabolic disorder) should avoid use of this medicine.
Side effects
The patients administered with this medicine may experience gastrointestinal disturbances, esophageal or small bowel obstruction, and ulceration (intestinal inflammation).
Expert Advice
- Please take with or after meals.
- Please swallow the whole tablet at once with a glass of water or juice.
- Take antacids 2 hours before or after taking dietary potassium.
- Please immediately inform your doctor in case of any severe adverse effects.
