pramoxine

It is used for symptomatic relief of pain and discomfort in internal and external haemorrhoids (a condition characterised with swelling and inflammation of veins in the rectum or anus which may cause bleeding after passing stool), proctitis (inflammation of tissue lining of the inner rectum), papillitis (inflammation of rectal papillae), cryptitis (inflammation of intestinal glands found in the lining of intestine) and anal fissures (a small tear in the thin tissue that lines the anus) following anorectal surgery (surgey of area involving anus and rectum).

Contradications

Pramoxine is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to pramoxine and it is not indicated to apply on open wounds.

Side effects

Use of pramoxine may cause burning or stinging sensation, erythema (redness), itching, swelling etc. Rarely it may cause anaphylactic reaction (serious allergic reaction).

  • This medicine should only be used on skin.
  • Do not apply on broken skin, open wounds or serious burns.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the medicine.
  • For haemorrhoids or other anal conditions apply 4-5 times a day or as directed by your doctor.
  • Do not use this medicine inside the rectum.
  • Do not use this medicine more often.
  • Wash your hands with soap water after applying.
