rifampacin

This medication is indicated in patients with adjunct in Tuberculosis and certain infectoins related to mycobacteria. Adjunct in multibacillary and paucibacilary leprosy (pigmented numb skin patches). Brucellosis (bacterial infection), legionnaires disease (severe form of pnuemonia), endocarditis (infection on the inner lining of heart).

Contradications

Previous hypersentivity to any rifampin and jaundice.

Side effects

Heart burn, epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore mouth, rash, urticaria (hives), thrombocytopenia, muscular weakness, pain in extremities, visual disturbances, hematuria (presence of blood in urine), mentrual disturbances, headache, dizziness, GI upset, purpura (purple patches on skin), pyrexia (fever), chills, raised LFTs, secretions and skin reactions.

not recommended for intermittent therapy,caution patients against accidental interruption of daily dose regimen, rare kidney hypersensitivity reactions when therapy is resumed. Urine, faeces, saliva, sputum, sweat and tears maybe colored orange.

Storage:

Please store the tablet form of this medicine at room temperature (18-25 Celsius). Keep medicine away from children, excessive light, and moisture.

Side Effects:

You may experience heartburn, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, rashes, white blood cell count changes, muscular weakness, menstrual and visual disturbances, skin reactions, and chills.

Precautions:

The patient’s body secretions may be colored red-orange. You may experience renal (kidney) allergic reactions. It is not recommended for intermittent treatment.

Effects on pregnancy and lactation:

The effects of this medicine in pregnant females are undetermined; therefore, caution is advised. The effects of this medicine in nursing females are undetermined; therefore, caution is advised.

Administration:

This medicine is mostly taken through the mouth. The dosage is dependent on the age, condition and its severity.

Contraindications:

The patients with allergies to any rifampin associated medicine and jaundice should avoid use of this medicine.
