sucralfate

This medicine is indicated in acute & chronic forms of gastric & duodenal ulcers, gastritis duodenitis (inflammation of stomach lining, inflammation of duodenum), gastric erosion & bile reflux (bile backs up(reflux) into stomach & esophagus).

Contradications

Its contraindications include dialysis, high blood sugar, aluminum poisoning & chronic kidney disease stage 5 (failure). Also contraindicated in allergy with sucralfate.

Side effects

Its side effects include constipation, diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, dry mouth & rash.

Expert Advice

  • It should be taken 1 hour before having a meal or 2 hours after the meal. Take medicine with water.
  • In case you have taken any other medicine, wait at least 2 hours and then take sucralfate.
  • Do not take antacids (if prescribed) within 30 minutes of taking sucralfate.
  • If constipation persist, then contact your prescriber.

How long will sucralfate take to work?

It mostly takes two to eight weeks before you get full benefit of sucralfate. It shouldn’t be taken for longer than 8 weeks at a time.

Can sucralfate & omeprazole be taken together?
