This drug is used to treat psychosis, especially early schizophrenia.

Contradications

This drug shoud not be given if there is intolerance to oral neuroleptic drugs, Parkinsonism, severe arteriosclerosis, senile confusional states, advanced kidney, liver or cardiovascular disease. This drug should also not be given in acute opiate, alcohol or barbiturate posioning, in circulatory collapse, depressed level of consciousness, and coma.

Side effects

This drug can have a number of side effects including decreased WBC's, increased prolactin hormones, abnormality of muscle tone, abnormality of voluntary movements, restlessness, Parkinsonism, drowsiness, insomnia, agitation, increased heart rate, arrhythmia, decreased blood pressure, dry mouth, blurred vision, rash, photosensitivity, impaired temperature regulation, convulsions, male sexual dysfunction, increased lymphocytes and monocytes, invluntary movements of jaw and face, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
