acetazolamide

This medicine is indicated for use in congestive heart failure, edema (excess accumulation of fluid in different parts of the body), toxemia of pregnancy ( infection in blood during pregnancy), premenstrual tension (stress affecting women before their menses start), epilepsy (a condition in which you may get fits)  and glaucoma (an eye condition in which there is increased pressure in the eye). 

Contradications

This medicine is contraindicated for use in chronic closed angle glaucoma ( an eye condition in which there is an increased pressure in the eye), kidney tubular diseases (disorders involving kidney tubes), insufficiency of adrenal glands, sodium or potassium depletion, liver impairement and if the patient has hypersensitivty to sulphonamide. 

Side effects

The adverse effects of this medicine are flushing, thirst, headache, drowsiness, polyuria (increased production of urine), paraesthesia (numbness and tingling sensation), blood dyscrasias (disorders of blood cells), excitement, rash, metabolic acidosis (increased acidic environment in the body) and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (sudden pus-producing pimples all over the body).
