This medication is used for treating adults and children suffering from malaria. Malaria is a condition in which a certain type of mosquito infects the human by its bite. It cannot be used as prevention from malaria.

Contradications
This medication should not be used in patients with a history of arrhythmias (problems with the rate and rhythm of the heart) , clinically relevant bradycardia(significantly low heart rate ) and other cardiac (heart related disorders). It should also not be used in patients with severe malaria or in other plasmodium infections (infections of the microorganism plasmodium).
Side effects
Abdominal pain, anorexia, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, palpitation, prolonged qt interval , cough , headache,dizziness, asthaenia (weakness), sleep disturbances , GI upset , fatigue , cough, gait disturbances (problems in the manner of walking) and sleep disturbances among others. PRECAUTIONS
This medication can cause electrolyte disturbances and its use with associated drugs is known to cause QT interval prolongation (problems in rate and rhythm of the heart). Patients unable to take food should be monitored. Severe cardiac(heart) , renal(kidney) or hepatic(liver ) impairment can also be caused.
