Benzydamine is used in the treatment of stomatitis (inflammation of mouth and lips), apthous ulcers (small and shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissues in your mouth), plaque (a sticky deposit on teeth), gingivitis (inflammation of gingiva), oral mucositis (inflammation of oral mucous membranes), denture ulcers (lesions caused by an ill-fitting denture), burning mouth syndrome (burning feeling in mouth), tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils), and pharyngitis (sore throat).

Contradications

  • Benzydamine is contraindicated for use in patients with benzydamine
  • Benzydamine should be used with extreme caution in patients with epilepsy or seizures.
  • Benzydamine is contraindicated for patients allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen or, naproxen.

Side effects

Benzydamine does not have side effects. If consumed in large quantity, the side effects of benzydamine include:

  • Skin rash
  • Tightness in the chest or throat
  • Trouble breathing or talking
  • Mouth, face, lips, tongue or throat swelling

  • Do not use this medicine more than 4 times a day unless directed by your doctor.
  • Allow medication to stay on painful area for at least 1 minute before spitting out or rinsing the mouth.

How do you use this medicine?

Apply this medication on the affected area with the help of your finger and let it stay there for 1-4 minutes ideally, after which you can spit it out or rinse your mouth with water.

This medicine is mostly used as a mouthwash. Rinse your mouth with it 2-3 times a day and spit out or as prescribed ab your doctor. The dosage is dependent on the age, condition and its severity. This medicine is not recommended for children below six years of age.
