This medication is used for treating metastatic bone damages in breast cancer (tumor development away from primary site), pathological hypercalcemia (increased calcium levels due to disease) in bone tumors, and in post-menopausal osteoporosis to minimize the risk of fractures.
It is used to reduce the bone damage done during breast cancer, control the increased calcium level as a
result of tumors, and to reduce fractures in postmenopausal osteoporosis (bone fragility).
The use of this medicine is prohibited in people with hypersensitivity and hypocalcemia (decreased
blood calcium level).
In patients treated for hypercalcemia; rise in body temperature, flu-like symptoms, and hypocalcemia
(decreased blood calcium level) results.
In patients treated for bone disease; headache, diarrhea, myalgia (muscle pain), asthenia (physical
weakness), flu-like illness, abdominal pain, vomiting, and dyspepsia (indigestion) results.
This medicine is used orally or intravenously. The injectable form is injected into a vein by a medical professional. The patients administered with this medicine may experience rise in body temperature, flu-like-syndrome, hypocalcemia (low calcium levels), headache, myalgia (muscular pain), and gastrointestinal disturbances.
The patients with severe hepatic (liver) disease, bone function and mineral disturbances, risk of osteonecrosis (bone death due to decreased blood supply) of the jaw and femoral bone fracture should be cautious. Please monitor renal (kidney) function, and levels of calcium, phosphate and magnesium during use of this medicine. Please advise patients to report ear, thigh, hip and groin pain.
Effects on pregnancy and lactation:
This medicine is not recommended for pregnant females. This medicine is not recommended for nursing females.
The patients with Hypocalcemia (decreased calcium levels) and allergic reactions (especially in children) to Ibandronic Acid and bisphosphonates should avoid use of this medicine.
