Men: It is used to treat male hypogonadism (the diminished functional activity of the reproductive organs), potency disorders, protein deficiency during recovery, after surgery and in wasting diseases, liver cirrhosis, aplastic anemia (type of deficiency of blood cells), delayed healing of bones and osteoporosis (bone fragility) due to androgen (a hormone) deficiency.

Women: used in the treatment of progressive mammary or endometrial carcinoma, climacteric complaints with existing mammary or endometrial carcinoma.

Contradications

It is advised to not use this medicine in prostate and male breast cancer, hypercalcemia (increased concentration of calcium in the blood), and impaired liver activity.

Side effects

Male: Gynecomastia (enlargement of men's breast), excessive penile erection, decreased testicular function, testicular atrophy (shrinking of testicles), and impotence (inability to maintain an erection)

Females: amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) and other menstrual irregularities.

  1. How should it be administered?
    It is administered by intramuscular injection and given every 2-3 weeks.
  2. How to store it?
    Keep it at room temperature between (20°C and 25°C) and away from light.
  3. What are its side effects?
    In females
    : Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) and other menstrual irregularities

In males: gynaecomastia (enlargement of men’s breast), excessive frequency and duration of penile erections, inhibition of testicular function, testicular atrophy, impotence (inability to maintain an erection).

  1. What are its precautions?
    Individuals with cardiac, liver, and kidney insufficiencies, epilepsy (seizures), migraine, and hypertension (increased blood pressure) are advised to observe caution. Long-term and large doses are also reported to hinder bone lengthening. Also, prolonged use may result in liver cancer and the development of male pattern in women, therefore, ensure to use it in the amount as prescribed.

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactating females.
