A CA-19-9 lab test measures the amount of CA-19-9 (cancer antigen 19-9) present in the blood. Cancer antigen 19-9 is a tumor marker. Tumor markers are substances made by either cancer or normal cells in response to cancer in the body.

Stop biotin consumption 72 hours prior to the test.

Pancreatic, bile duct, colon, and stomach cancer raise CA-19-9 level.
Can CA-19-9 be elevated without cancer?
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) and gallstones (stones in gall bladder) raise CA-19-9 level.
How long does it take to get CA 19-9 lab test result?
The result of this test is available within 1-2 days.
Normal level of CA-19-9 is less than 37 U/mL.
