An anti HBs lab test detects hepatitis B surface antibody produced by the body against the surface antigens (viral proteins) of hepatitis B virus. Hepatitis B surface antibodies appear in the blood after the disappearance of hepatitis B surface antigen (viral protein). Hepatitis B surface antibody provides long-term immunity against hepatitis B virus.

The level of hepatitis B surface antibody is the highest one month after getting a hepatitis B booster vaccination.
Can I get this test done during pregnancy?
This test can be conducted during pregnancy.
A positive anti HBs level in children and adults is greater than 10 IU/L.
A negative anti HBs level in children and adults is between 2 – 10 IU/L.
