WHAT IS VOMITUS OCCULT BLOOD TEST?
There may be times when you may bleed internally due to some reasons and the blood gets accumulated in your stomach and finally come out through vomiting. In these cases, a sample of your vomitus may get examined in a laboratory to detect any blood in it.
Q1. What causes upper gastrointestinal bleed?
Gastrointestinal bleeding is not a disease, but a symptom of a disease. There are many causes of gastrointestinal bleeding including peptic ulcers, hemorrhoids, tear or inflammation in the esophagus.
Q2. What are the signs of internal bleeding?
- Abdominal pain
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Vomiting
- Streaks of blood in the material you spit-up
- Dizziness
- Fever
- Blood in the urine
If your vomitus is clearly containing blood in it or if it is confirmed from the test results, you’ll be asked a few questions by your doctor and based on it you may be ordered with any other test or be diagnosed with the disease you have.
If no blood is detected in your vomitus, the test will show up as negative.
