Methyldopa acts on the central nervous system, by breaking down into alpha-methylnoradrenaline. This affects the central alpha adrenergic receptors resulting in the lowering of blood pressure. It also works to reduce the plasma renin action as well as lowers tissue dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline and noradrenaline.

  • Do not stop taking this medication abruptly. Lower the dosage gradually and consult your doctor before doing so.
  • It is advised to take this medication at bed – time to avoid day time drowsiness.
