This medicine is used as local anesthesia, to prevent and relieve pain during certain medical procedures and it is also used to numb the lining of the mouth, throat, or nose before certain medical procedures.

Patients using this medication may at times experience dizziness. confusion. convulsions. and depressed respiratory rate. If you experience any of these symptoms for a long period please consult your doctor. 

It is contraindicated in complete heart block and hypovolemia (decrease in volume of blood in the body).

Avoid this medication if:

  • You are allergic to this medicine or its contents.
  • You are going to use it on a wound or cut.
  • You have a medical history of: blood pigmentation disorder known as porphyrias.


Consult your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant, planning to have a child, or breastfeeding.
  • This drug is to be used in children.
  • You have a history of addiction, or drug abuse
  • You have a medical history of diabetes, chicken pox, herpes, fungal infections, any liver disease.
  • Inform your physician about any other medication you are taking.
  • You cannot tolerate any of the side effects of this medicine, or develop any rare but serious side effects; such as seizures.

Be careful about:

  • Alcohol consumption.
Local numbness
It is applied at the start of the procedure and takes 3-5 minutes for the numbing effect to occur.
Adults -Apply to the affected area 3 or 4 times a day Children—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your healthcare provider
This medication works by blocking nerve signals in your body
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time
Store at room temperature and keep away from children.
No definite data regarding pregnancy is available, therefore consult your doctor before using this medicine. 
The effect of this medication is undetermined in nursing females. Consut your doctor for advice.
Please avoid driving when taking this medicine as it may affect your ability to drive.
Please avoid consuming alcohol when taking this medicine.
Elderly patients and patients with renal (kidney), hepatic (liver) impairment, hypotension (low blood pressure), severe shock, epilepsy (brain disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures), myasthenia gravis (muscular disorder where there is a serious muscle weakness), porphyria (a group of liver disorders, negatively affecting the skin or nervous system), respiratory impairment, sinus bradycardia (slow heart beat) or any form of heart block should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.
