Cefoperazone is a cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of action that is used to treat infections caused by bacteria in a variety of areas, including the respiratory tract, skin, abdomen, and female reproductive tracts. Cefaperazone is among the few cephalosporin medicines that can cure bacterial infections caused by pseudomonas that would otherwise be immune to such antibiotics.

Introduction

How To Use

  • This medicine should be taken in the advised dosage after meals.
  • This medicine should be administered by a nurse or some other skilled health practitioner. It is administered as an injection into a muscle or a vein.
  • Even if you start feeling better after the first few doses, it is advised to take every dose indicated to get rid of your infection. If you stop taking the medicine too early, the infection may recur.

  • Skin and Skin Structure Infections
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Endometritis (inflammation of uterus lining), and Other Female Reproductive Tract Infections

Side Effects

This medicine may cause rash, diarrhoea, decreased neutrophils (White blood cells), decreased haemoglobin, eosinophilia (increased eosinophils), or increased transaminases (liver enzymes). Please cosult your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms.

Pregnancy

Cefoperazone should be administered during pregnancy only in case of a definite need. Consult your doctor before taking this medication while pregnant.

Lactation

Cefoperazone is known to be excreted in breast milk in insignificant amounts.  Lactating mothers should consult their doctors before taking this medicine.

Driving

Cefoperazone has not been shown in clinical trials to affect a patient's driving ability.

Liver

Cefoperazone dosage is modified as needed in patients with liver disease. Before using this medication, these people should check with their doctor.

Kidney

Cefoperazone dose is modified as needed in patients with renal disease. Before taking this medication, these people should check with their doctor.

Alcohol

You should not consume alcohol while using cefoperazone. You may experience unpleasant adverse effects such as racing heartbeat, redness or warmth under the skin, tingling sensations, vomiting, and nausea.

Precautions

Please consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you have collitis (inflammation of colon). This medicine may interfere with haemostasis ( stopping of blood flow). It's prolong use may lead to superinfection.
