This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, and ear, nose and throat.

The patients administered with this medicine may experience hepatitis (liver infections), skin reactions, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (disorder of the skin and mucous membranes), bleeding time prolongation, dizziness, convulsions, teeth staining with the medicine suspension, injection site reactions (redness, pain, etc.), allergies, blood disorders, central nervous system effects, and medicine associated colitis (intestinal infection).

The side effects are not limited to those mentioned above only. Please consult your doctor for further information.

The patients with allergy to penicillins and/or Co-amoxiclav and hepatic (liver) dysfunction should avoid use of this medicine.

  1. What should I avoid while taking Augmentin?

Please avoid taking this medicine with or after consuming high-fat meals. Fats may decrease the absorption of the medicine.

 

  1. What is the best time to take Augmentin?

This medicine is mostly taken at the start of a meal. The usual dose for adults and children of 40 kg and above is one tablet twice a day or one or two tablets three times a day, depending on the infection type and its severity. Please swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.

 

  1. How quickly does Augmentin work?

It may take this medicine up to 1.5 hours to show its full effect. However, it may take up to 48 hours to see clinical signs of improvement.

 

 

 

  1. Is 5 days of Augmentin enough to get rid of the infection entirely?

This medicine may be prescribed to you for 5-7 days depending on the infection type, its severity, and response to treatment. Please complete the entire course of the medication to eliminate the infection completely.

 

  1. Does Augmentin cause gastrointestinal disturbances?

This medicine may cause gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, gas, and diarrhea. Please contact your doctor immediately if the adverse effects persist for an extended period or you experience any other serious side effects.

  • Please take this medicine with meals preferably to avoid any gastrointestinal disturbances.
  • Extended release tablets must be taken with meals.
  • Please follow the medicine schedule that is prescribed to you.
  • Please complete the full course of the medicine to avoid reinfection.

This medicine is used orally or intravenously. The injectable form is injected into a vein by a medical professional. However, if you are self-injecting or doing it at home, ensure that you follow the correct procedure and all relevant precautions. The dose is dependent on the age, condition and its severity.
Please store the oral form of this medicine at room temperature (18-25 Celsius). Please keep away from excessive light, moisture, and children. Please read the leaflet provided with the medicine for further storage guidance.

There is no data regarding risk in pregnant females; however, caution is advised.  
The effect of this medicine in nursing females is unknown. Please consult your doctor before use. 
The patients with hepatic (liver) and renal (kidney) problems, risk of crystalluria (urine crystals), infection of the white blood cells, and risk of generalized exanthematous pustulosis (medicine associated skin reaction) should use this medicine cautiously.  The patients should also stay hydrated.
