This medicine is used in the prophylaxis and treatment of angina (chest pain).
Patients administered with this medication may experience headache, cutaneous vasodilation (dilation of vessels) and flushing (temporary redness), nausea (feeling like vomiting), vomiting, dizziness (feeling like sleeping), gastrointestinal upset, tachycardia (rapid heart rate), and weakness. Rarely, oral ulceration (ulcers in mouth), rash (change in colour and texture of skin), and at high dosage, reduction in blood pressure, increase in heart rate, hepatic (liver) dysfunction and ulceration.

Lactation
The effect of this medicine is undetermined in a lactating female, therefore, be cautious, and consult your doctor before using this medication.
Precautions
Patients suffering from hypovolaemia (decreased extracellular fluid in body), low systolic blood pressure, acute (short term) pulmonary edema (retention of water in lungs), acute (short term) myocardial infarction (heart attack), acute (short term) left ventricular failure with low filling pressures, and G6PD deficiency (genetic disorder) should stay cautious. Patients that have risk of eye and gastrointestinal ulceration should be closely monitored.
This medicine is contraindicated in patients of cardiogenic shock (heart fails to pump enough blood), left ventricular failure with low filling pressures, hypotension (low blood pressure), hypovolaemia (decreased extracellular fluid in body), and pulmonary edema (retention of water in lungs).

When should I take nicorandil?
It is usual to take one 10mg tablet twice daily, in the morning and evening.
