This medication is used for treating mild to moderate pain such as in rheumatoid arthritis (disorder causing inflammation and joint pain), headaches, menstrual cramps, and migraines.

 

The patients administered with this medicine may experience fatigue, swelling, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, respiratory tract infections, sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), pruritus, skin condition causing itching), hepatic (liver) function changes, heart function changes, nausea and vomiting, flu-like-symptoms, and allergies.

Patients with allergies to sulphonamides and Non- Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), active peptic ulcer (intestinal inflammation), inflammatory bowel disease (intestinal disease), gastrointestinal bleeding, and severe cardiac (heart), renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) disease should avoid use of this medicine and use contraception.

Please use contraception during use of this medicine.

  1. How long should I take celecoxib?

This medicine is mostly taken for up tp five days. However, you may be required to take it for a shorter or longer period depending on your condition. Please consult your doctor for further guidance.

 

  1. Does celecoxib make you sleepy?

This medicine may cause slight drowsiness. Therefore, please avoid doing work requiring alertness, such as driving, immediately after taking this medicine.

 

 

 

 

  1. Does Celecoxib start working immediately?

This medicine mostly starts working immediately. However, the time may vary depending on each individual and his/her condition. If there is no improvement in your condition after 2-3 weeks, this medicine is not likely to work at all for you.

 

  1. What medicines should I avoid while taking Celecoxib?

The class of medicines that may interact with Celecoxib’s action include aliskiren, ACE inhibitors (such as lisinopril and captopril), angiotensin II receptor blockers (such as losartan and valsartan), lithium, cidofovir, and "water pills" (diuretics such as furosemide).

 

  1. Why was Celecoxib taken off the market?

This medicine increases the risk of heart attacks and stroke. Therefore, it comes with a warning indicating that it should only be used if no safer alternate is available.

This medicine should be taken with food.
  • Please swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water.
  • Please immediately inform your doctor if any serious side effects occur.
  • Please avoid taking this medicine with antacids.
  • Please avoid consumption of alcohol and smoking during use of this medicine.

Patients with cardiac (heart), renal (kidney) and hepatic (liver) impairment, history of gastrointestinal disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), and elderly should be cautious.
This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
