This medicine is used in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension (raised blood pressure).
Patients administered with this medication may experience flushing (temporary redness), peripheral edema (swelling of lower legs and hands), palpitations (sensation that your heart has skipped a beat), tachycardia (rapid heart rate), headache, dizziness (feeling of being sleepy), asthaenia (weakness), gastrointestinal disturbances, hypotension (low blood pressure), myalgia (muscle weakness), rash (change in color and texture of skin), and worsening of angina (chest pain) and myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Pregnancy
This medicine is contraindicated in a pregnant female.
Lactation
This medicine is contraindicated in a lactating female.
Precautions
Patients that have left ventricular dysfunction (inability of the ventricle to fill to a normal volume), ischaemic (lack of oxygen) heart disease, sick sinus syndrome (inability of the heart to make a natural heartbeat) if pacemaker not fitted, renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment should stay cautious. Patients taking this medication should avoid grapefruit juice as it may affect metabolism. It is recommended not to prescribe this medicine to an elderly patient.
This medicine is contraindicated in patients suffering from aortic stenosis (narrowing of aortic valve), unstable angina (chest pain), uncontrolled heart failure within 1 month of myocardial infarction (heart attack), severe hepatic (liver) or renal (kidney) impairment, and acute porphyria (metabolic disorder).
