Precautions

Discontinue this medicine if symptoms of fluid and electrolyte disturbance develop. Patients of cardiovascular (heart vessels) impairment should not take more than sachets in an hour. In patients of faecal impaction there is a risk of impaired gag reflex (muscles of the throat contract causing vomiting), risk of regurgitation (the act of bringing swallowed food back into the mouth), reflux esophagitis (inflammation of esophagus), and impaired consciousness. It is recommended to maintain adequate hydration. Patients of arrythmia (abnormal rate or rhythm of heartbeat), cardiac (heart) or renal (kidney) impairment and elderly should stay cautious.

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients of intestinal perforation or obstruction, paralytic ileus (paralysis of intestinal muscles), severe inflammatory conditions of the intestinal tract such as Crohn’s disease (chronic inflammation of digestive tract) and toxic megacolon (dilated colon accompanied by abdominal (stomach area) distension (bloating), and gastric retention.
