Description

This medication is used in the treatment of hypertension (increased blood pressure) and cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) related events in patients with established arteries or other vascular diseases (atherosclerosis). A normal blood pressure helps lower the possibility of heart, kidney, and liver disease.

Safety Information/Precautions

Precautions

• This medication should be used with extreme caution in patients with impaired hepatic (liver) function, and bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of arteries supplying the kidneys). 
• Mild to moderate renal (kidney) impairment. 
• It may also impair glucose tolerance.
• Patients with renovascular (blood vessels of the kidney) hypertension (high blood pressure).
• Elderly patients should be cautioned against the use of this medication.

When not to use

This medicine is not recommended for patients with the following:

• Severe liver disease
• Gall bladder disorders
• Low potassium levels
• Hypercalcemia (high calcium in blood)

Side effects

This medicine may cause the following:

• upper respiratory tract infections
• back pain
• sinusitis

Pregnancy

This medicine is contraindicated in pregnant females.

Lactation

This medicine is contraindicated in nursing females.
