  • Take with or without meals.
  • Do not take within 1 hour before or after taking dairy products, antacids or other medications.
  • Inform prescriber and discontinue medication if there is tendon pain/inflammation, burning redness/pain/swelling/irritation at infusion site, urticaria (outbreak of swollen pale red bumps on skin), facial swelling, difficulty in breathing or swallowing, loss of consciousness, chest pain palpitations (feeling of heart beating fastly and tingling.
  • Contact prescriber if there is increased sleepiness, tremors (shivering), agitation (nervousness), skin rash, changes in vision, difficulty in breathing, sore throat, chills, fever burning/itching on urination, white plaques in mouth, vaginal discharge or if there is worsening of condition.
  • Complete full course of therapy even if you feel better.
  • Take sufficient amounts of fluids (2-3 liters per day) to maintain hydration, unless restricted by the prescriber.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, wear sunscreen, protective eyewear and clothing to prevent photosensitivity (sensitivity reactions caused by exposure to sunlight).

Bacterial Infections

Indications

It is indicated in urinary tract infections, infections of the lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, urethral and cervical gonorrhea, non-gonococcal urethritis (inflammation of the urethra), and cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix).

Side Effects

Gastrointestinal disturbances, skin reactions, CNS (nervous system) disturbances are some of its side effects. Hypersensitivity reactions, suicidal thoughts and behavior, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage outside the brain), tendinitis (inflammation of tendons), and tendon rupture are also reported.

This drug is contraindicated in pregnant females.

Lactation

This medicine should not be used by nursing females.

Precautions

Elderly and patients with psychiatric disorders, renal (kidney) and hepatic (liver) impairment, myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), diabetes, G6PD deficiency may be sensitive to the drug. There may be a risk of QT prolongation (heart muscles take longer than normal to recharge), pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the large intestine due to overgrowth of bacteria); consider if the patient has persistent diarrhea. Advise patients to report signs of liver disease. Avoid the strong UV light and consult an eye specialist immediately if visual disturbances occur.

Contraindications

This drug is contraindicated in epilepsy (a disorder of brain with abnormal brain activity causing seizures) or lowered seizure threshold. It is also not indicated for growing adolescents and patients with a history of tendinitis (inflammation of tendons).
