It is indicated in urinary tract infections, infections of the lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, urethral and cervical gonorrhea, non-gonococcal urethritis (inflammation of the urethra), and cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix).
Gastrointestinal disturbances, skin reactions, CNS (nervous system) disturbances are some of its side effects. Hypersensitivity reactions, suicidal thoughts and behavior, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage outside the brain), tendinitis (inflammation of tendons), and tendon rupture are also reported.
This drug is contraindicated in epilepsy (a disorder of brain with abnormal brain activity causing seizures) or lowered seizure threshold. It is also not indicated for growing adolescents and patients with a history of tendinitis (inflammation of tendons).
It can be taken with or without food.
Bacterial urinary tract infections and various bacterial skin infections are treated with ofloxacin.
If a single dose is taken, it is preferred to take it in the morning. If you are taking more than one dose take them after intervals of at least 12 hours.
Majority of the administered dose is excreted through the kidneys in 48 hours.
It may cause some people to become dizzy, lightheaded, drowsy, and less alert.
