This medicine is used in the treatment of tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils), pharyngitis (sore throat), sinusitis (inflammation of sinuses), acute (short term) purulent (pus forming) bronchitis (inflammation of bronchi), exacerbation of chronic (long term) obstructive bronchitis (inflammation of bronchi), bacteria pneumonia (inflammation of air sacs in lungs), skin and urinary tract infection.
Patients administered with this medicine may experience gastrointestinal upset, headache, dizziness (feeling of being sleepy), tinnitus (ringing in ears), paresthesia (abnormal sensation of skin without any physical cause), asthenia (abnormal physical weakness), malaise (tiredness), allergic reactions, raised liver enzymes, raised blood urea and creatinine, and pseudomembranous (drug induced) colitis (inflammation of the lining of large intestine).
Pregnancy
Please consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant.
Lactation
This medicine is contraindicated in lactating females.
Precautions
Patients that have renal (kidney) impairment, beta lactam and penicillin hypersensitivity (allergy) should stay cautious. It is recommended to tell your doctor your medical history especially of kidney, stomach, and intestinal disease before using this medicine.
This medicine is contraindicated in patients of phenylketonuria (inborn error of metabolism) and in patients that are suffering from diarrhea (frequent watery stools) from an infection with clostridium difficile bacteria and abnormal liver function tests.
What is cefpodoxime used for?
Cefpodoxime is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs), pneumonia (inflammation of air sacs in lungs), gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease), and infections of the skin, ear, sinuses, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract.
Is cefpodoxime used for cough?
Cefpodoxime is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. However, this medicine will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
How long does cefpodoxime stay in your system?
Approximately 29 to 33% of the administered cefpodoxime dose is excreted unchanged in the urine in 12 hours.
Can I take cefpodoxime with amoxicillin?
No interactions were found between amoxicillin and cefpodoxime.
Does cefpodoxime cause yeast infection?
Use of this medicine for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush (white patches on the mucous membranes of mouth) or a new vaginal yeast infection.
