What is this test used for?

Measurements of the total number of leukocytes (WBSs) in a given volume of urine is known as Total Leukocyte Count.

  • Eosinophils
  • Monocytes

Q1) How is this test performed?

This test is performed on a blood sample. The blood is obtained from the vein and this is performed by a healthcare provider in the following way.

  • Clean the skin
  • Put an elastic band above the area
  • Insert a needle into a vein (usually in the arm inside of the elbow or on the back of the hand)

There is no significant risk associated with this test. A small bruise or mild soreness around the blood test site is common and can last for a few days. Get medical care if the discomfort gets worse or lasts longer.

Q3) What causes high eosinophils?

A high number of eosinophils are linked to a variety of diseases. The condition is known as eosinophilia and can be caused by

  • Allergic diseases, including hay fever
  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Parasitic infections
  • Fungal infections

Q4) What causes low eosinophils?

A low percentage of eosinophils in the blood can occur due to

  • Alcohol intoxication
  • Overproduction of steroids in the body

An absolute eosinophil count is a blood test that measures the number of one type of white blood cells called eosinophils. Eosinophils become active when you have certain allergic diseases, infections, and other medical conditions.

Absolute eosinophil count measures the eosinophils in the urine that are important for the body’s immune mechanism.

Normal eosinophil count is less than 500 cells per microliter (cells/mcL)
