This medicine is used in the treatment of depression and anxiety associated with depression.
Patients administered with this medicine may experience dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness (feeling like sleeping), disturbances of lipid (fats), psychiatric effects, postural hypotension (lowering of blood pressure on changing posture), arrhythmias (abnormal rate and rhythm of heartbeat), and allergic skin reactions. Very rarely, bone marrow suppression, hepatitis (inflammation of liver), jaundice (yellowing of skin and mucous membranes), and convulsions (muscles contract and relax rapidly).
Pregnancy
No definite data regarding pregnant females is available, therefore, be cautious, and consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Lactation
The effect of this medicine is undetermined in a lactating female, therefore, consult your doctor for further information.
Precautions
Patients that have a history of epilepsy (abnormal brain activity causing periods of unusual behavior), glaucoma (disorders damaging optic nerve), prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of prostate gland), cardiovascular (vessels of the heart) disorders, and suicidal tendencies should stay cautious. Withdraw this medicine in elderly gradually.
This medicine is contraindicated in patients that recently suffered from myocardial infarction (heart attack) or are currently suffering from heart block, arrhythmias (abnormal rate and rhythm of heartbeat), mania (state of extreme excitement), severe hepatic (liver) impairment, and porphyria (liver disorder).

Does Dothiepin cause weight gain?
Increased appetite and weight gain have been reported but it is not known whether they are due to relief of depression or to the medicine.
